NBA Free Agent Tracker: 2012-13

This year so far has been full of free agent talk, from the Dwight Howard to Rockets, and Chris Paul to the Hawks. Here is what is going to shape up for these title contending teams.

  1. Dwight Howard and Chris Paul:

Howard is still weighing his options on where to go to. He had signed a 1-year deal this season, so his contract had ended the moment he had gotten ejected from Game 4 of the 1st round of the playoffs vs. Spurs. Paul has co-existed well with the Clippers, and he wants out of LA because he has been blamed for the Vinny Del Negro firing.

The Outcome:

Howard is a Rocket. Paul is a Hawk.

  1. Josh Smith

Smith is a great power forward. The Hawks have been wanting to trade him for the past 2 years, but the problem is, the Hawks are rejecting the trade offers. He is a restricted free agent, so he is waiting for something to happen

The Outcome:

Josh Smith is a Rocket with Howard.

  1. KG and Paul Pierce

KG and Pierce run in Boston has sadly come to an end.

The Outcome:

KG goes to the Hawks to join Paul, and Pierce goes to the Clippers

NFL Mock Draft 1.1: 1st 10 picks

I did a mock draft after week 9, but that was a bit to early to make some predictions. Here is NFL Mock Draft 1.1 (with the 1st 10 picks). The draft is from April 25th-27th.

1st Pick: Kansas City Chiefs, Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan;

He is the best option because of the weak O-Line that he has. If they don’t draft him, Alex Smith and the Chiefs will give their fans a hard time to breath.

2nd pick: Jacksonville Jaguars, Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon;

Sharrif Floyd is an option, but he just is not as aggressive as Dion Jordan. I’m a huge Stanford fan, so I watch Stanford-Oregon every single year. Jordan just impresses me so much by the fact that he is the 1st one to hit the QB, EVERY SINGLE TIME DOWN THE FIELD. He is the ideal fit for a terrible D.

3rd pick: Oakland Raiders, Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida;

Floyd is the perfect pick because he brings a lot of help to DT Richard Seymour.

4th pick: Philadelphia Eagles, Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia;

Smith is a QB that all fans enjoy. Also, Mike Vick seems like a wierdo that can just throw INTs, and seems a little like Tebow, a lefty that just can’t complete a pass. He threw 8 TDs, and 656 yards in a 70-63 win over Baylor, so Eagles fans, start chanting “GENO SMITH!” when it’s time for the Eagles to make a pick in the draft

5th pick: Detroit Lions, Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M;

With Joeckel protecting Stafford, the Lions could repeat their 2011-2012 playoff run.

6th pick: Cleveland Browns, Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama;

Man, Milliner can be a lockdown D-fender (defender). He is the perfect way for the Browns to fill in their D and add on with CB Joe Haden.

7th pick: Arizona Cardinals, Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma;

Johnson can protect his QB as well as he protected Landry Jones.

8th pick: Buffalo Bills, Jonathan Cooper, OG, UNC;

Cooper will be a great fit because of his speed, and blocking ability. He also bring a lot of strong D to the Bills (not to mention he’s 6’2”, 311 lbs).

9th pick: NY Jets, Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia;

Jones is a great player, breaking many Georgia records and SEC records. He will help one of the worst D’s from last year, and turn them into one of the most intimidating.

10th pick: Tennessee Titans, Ezekiel (Ziggy) Ansah, BYU;

Ansah only had 4.5 sacks last season, but that’s not the case here. What makes him intimidating is that he’s a 6’5”, 271 lbs linebacker who has huge hands and arms.

March Madness: Possible Final Four Appearances; Part 2

As I have failed to get my 1st prediction correct after VCU’s loss, here is what I think the Final Four will be very crazy-looking.

Final Four Matchup 1: #15 FGCU (South) vs. #3 Marquette (East)

Cinderella will keep dancing on this night, and the glass slipper always fits. Sherwood Brown and the high-flying Eagles of FGCU beats Vander Blue’s Marquette Golden Eagles squad, 81-71

Final Four Matchup 2: #2 Duke (Midwest) vs. #2 Ohio State (West)

This will be a great game to watch, with the matchup between Seth Curry (Duke) and Aaron Craft (Ohio State). Craft can guard on the perimeter, while Curry can shoot effectively from the perimeter. Ohio State notches a big win. Final score: 78-77, Ohio State.

NCAA Championship Game: FGCU vs. Ohio State

Cinderella has made her story so far with FGCU, and no one will stop her from winning. Brett Comer and Sherwood Brown will come out strong for the Eagles.

AND THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS FOR THE 2012-2013 SEASON IS THE #15 SEED FLORIDA GULF COAST EAGLES!

March Madness: Possible Final Four, and NCAA Championship Appearances

This year is going to end on a crazy mark, with Indiana losing its composure and blowing its number 1 seed, and Georgetown now in the top 5, a possibility of defending champions Kentucky Wildcats not even making it to the tourney. Here is my prediction for the Final Four and the championship.

Final Four Match 1: #2 Ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (West) vs. #4 St. Louis Billikens (Midwest);

DeShaun Thomas and Aaron Craft will put on a show vs. St. Louis Billikens. They’ll win 64-59.

Final Four Matchup 2: #4 Ranked Marquette Golden Eagles (East) vs. #5 Ranked VCU Rams (South);

Shaka Smart is a great coach for VCU, and he sure knows how to drive his team to the Final Four, but this time, Senior Shooting Guard Troy Daniels will spoil Vander Blue’s dreams, and send VCU to the NCAA Championship Game easily, winning 88-68.

NCAA Championship Matchup: #5 Ranked VCU Rams (South) vs. #2 Ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (West)

VCU is in the championship zone. They will definitely try to put together another HUGE upset on the line.

Troy Daniels and DeShaun Thomas will be the stars of the show Classic NCAA Championship. And now, the 2013 Men’s NCAA Championship Winner is…

VCU

will beat Ohio State, 88-78, to claim the National Championship Title!

Slam Dunk on Buzzer Beater! Good or No Good?

There is a lot of controversy going on the slam dunk on buzzer beaters. Though is the shot good, or no good?

Like all buzzer beaters, you have to release the ball before the buzzer sounds. Same with dunks. Dunks are so hard to make at the buzzer because you aren’t really releasing the ball. Best situation is an alley-oop dunk because it is really the only way to get a buzzer-beater off a dunk.

The Awards: NFL 2012-13

Here are my predictions for the NFL 2012-13 Awards.

MVP: Peyton Manning (Quarterback, Denver Broncos)

Manning has had one of the best comeback seasons ever by an NFL player. His huge breakout-season performance really helped the Denver Broncos, as he was a free agent who went to the Broncos after rookie quarterback Andrew Luck was drafted by the Colts, ending his 14-year career with the Colts, winning 1 Super Bowl, and possibly winning his 5th regular season MVP award of the season.

Offensive Player of the Year: Adrian Peterson (aka AP, All Day, Running Back, Minnesota Vikings)

Peterson was 9 yards short of breaking Ed Dickerson’s record, and because of this and his phenomenal season, he deserves the Offensive Player of the Year.

Defensive Player of the Year: Justin James (JJ) Watt (aka JJ Swatt, Defensive End, Houston Texans)

There is no question that Watt has won the Defensive Player of the Year. Absolutely, no question, at all. Watt has led the league in sacks, and passes deflected this season by all defensive players.

Comeback Player of the Year: Adrian Peterson (aka AP, All Day, Running Back, Minnesota Vikings)

Peterson was 9 yards short of the record as mentioned above. Though more importantly, he turned an ACL injury into one of the best seasons ever by a running back.

Rookie of the Year: Robert Griffin III (aka RG3, Quarterback, Washington Redskins)

RG3 has been phenomenal all season. He has amazed us with his passing, his feet, and turning what looks like a huge sack, into a big gain or possibly even a touchdown. RG3 had a QB rating of 102.3, the highest ever by a rookie. He had 20 passing TDs and 7 rushing TDs. He had a devastating injury that may cause him to miss training camp, and possibly the whole season.

Most Improved Player of the Year: Kyle Rudolph (Tight End, Minnesota Vikings)

Kyle Rudolph has had a season that many had never expected out of him. From becoming the number 2 player on the Vikings Tight End Depth Chart behind long-time Viking Visanthe Shiancoe (now number 3 on the New England Patriots Tight End Depth Chart), into one of the best players in the league this year (and for many more years to come) is just phenomenal. He will get a lot of attention for Most Improved Player of the Year after having 5 catches for 122 yards and a TD, and winning the 2013 Pro Bowl MVP in the NFC’s 62-35 win over the AFC.

My Super Bowl Predictions

The Super Bowl, the most exciting game of the year, is almost here. The Final Four face off this weekend. The winners will go to the Super Bowl, and the losing teams will go home. Here are the various Super Bowl matchups we may see.

I. San Francisco 49ers vs. Baltimore Ravens

If this were to happen, it would be the perfect way to see if Kaepernick keeps his starting job, or if 8-year veteran QB Alex Smith will regain the starting job. If the Ravens win, then Ray Lewis will end his Hall Of Fame career victorious, putting Alex Smith back in uniform. If the 49ers win, it will state that Alex Smith has lost his job for good, and the 49ers might put him on the trading block, though not many teams will be interested in getting him. In this situation, the Ravens win, Ray Lewis retires as one of the best players in NFL history. Even though Alex Smith will get his job back, it’ll still cap off a remarkable season by Colin Kaepernick. The Ravens will shut down Kaepernick just like the were able to shut down Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning, and also with Tom Brady. Ravens will finish Ray Lewis’s career with a win 27-20.

II. San Francisco 49ers vs. New England Patriots

The 49ers are lead by a quarterback by the name of Colin Kaepernick, who many thought was not elite, though after his huge performance vs. Green Bay, he has turned into one of the most elite quarterbacks in the league. When they faced the Patriots, Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a 41-34 win in Foxboro. In this situation, I’d say that the 49ers win 38-35.

III. Atlanta Falcons vs. New England Patriots

This will be a great matchup to watch because both of these QBs love it when they have to lead their football team down the field for a victory. In this situation, Matt Ryan and the Falcons will finally get their wish, a Super Bowl victory. Falcons will win 30-16.

IV. Atlanta Falcons vs. Baltimore Ravens

This will be a match that will be hard for Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, though this will be a defensive battle all the way. Ravens will 14-7.

Which matchup would you like to see? Leave a comment below?

The AFC Playoff Predictions: After Week 17

The AFC has had many surprises which you won’t even believe would have happened even before the season started. Here is what I think will happen after Week 17.

Number 1: Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos are winners of 11 straight games. They are led by 4-time MVP Peyton Manning. Another key part of their success has been Eric Decker becoming Manning’s favorite target, and Von Miller and Co. getting some big stops on D. There is no one stopping ‘em now. Though, they will lose in the Divisional Round to the Colts 34-31.

Number 2: New England Patriots

The Patriots had a strong offseason after losing the Super Bowl, making Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley great replacements for BenJarvus Green-Ellis. They also got former Pat Jabar Gaffney, and Brandon Lloyd, who have had great seasons. They will lose to the Colts in the Divisional Round 31-29.

Number 3: Houston Texans

Houston has had the best season ever as a team. Arian Foster has improved, and Matt Schaub has played better than ever. On the D, JJ Watt is having a MVP-caliber season. This combo of offense and defense has made the Texans the most dangerous team in the NFL. They will lose to the Bengals in the Wild Card Round 31-10.

Number 4: Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens were the number 2 seed, then lost to the Steelers in OT 23-20, and the Redskins in OT 31-28. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are aging, and Lewis is injured. Terrell Suggs hasn’t been able to lead the team on a struggling D, though Haloti Ngata and Lardarius Webb is a shut-down corner. Joe Flacco has had an all-over-the-place-styled-season. Ray Rice had carried this team to some big wins early in the season. They will lose to the Colts in the Wild Card Round 44-20.

Number 5: Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck has made the Colts forget about Peyton Manning, and also, he is playing just like Manning, leading his team to huge come-from-behind wins in the 4th quarter. Rookie Wide Receivers T.Y. Hilton and Donnie Avery have had spectacular seasons. Reggie Wayne had been criticized and many said he was to old to lead the team and play as Andrew Luck’s go-to guy, though he changed that this season. Former Baltimore Ravens Defensive End Corey Redding was signed to a $10.5 million dollar contract, and Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis have had some great seasons leading this always-brilliant D. They will make it to the Super Bowl, though lose 38-26.

Number 6: Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals were the 6th seed last year, and will repeat that same result. Andy Dalton, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and AJ Green have had great seasons. They will lose in the Divisional Round to the Broncos 38-33.

The NFC Playoff Picture – After Week 16

The NFL Playoff Picture is very tight so far, though here is the playoff picture right now for the NFC.

NFC Playoff Picture 2012-2013

Number 1: Atlanta Falcons

Predicted Record: (14-2-0)

Current Record: (13-2-0)

The Atlanta Falcons got a first-round bye, and will have home-field advantage as they will face the lowest-winning seed from the 1st round. They have beaten some big-time teams, though they will need to fix up their playoff struggles. In 2010-2011, they were 13-3-0, and lost to the 10-6-0 Green Bay Packers 48-21. Last year, they lost as a 10-6-0 team in the 1st round to the 9-7-0 NY Giants, 24-2. Remaining opponent: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons should go easy over the Bucs, and will face the Vikings, and lose to the Vikings 23-20.

Number 2: Green Bay Packers

Predicted Record: (11-5-0)

Current Record: (11-4-0)

The Green Bay Packers won 55-7 over the Titans, the biggest blowout this season, and are number 2 thanks to the San Francisco 49ers losing to the Seattle Seahawks 42-13. The Packers have a much-improved D, led by Right Outside Linebacker Clay Matthews and Free Safety Charles Woodson. They will get a 1st round bye as well. Remaining opponent: @ Minnesota Vikings. They will lose to Adrian Peterson and the Vikings. They will most likely play the Washington Redskins in the 2nd round of the playoffs, and my prediction is that they will lose, not just because I’m a Redskins fan, but because the Green Bay D will most likely not be able to contain Robert Griffin III. They will lose in a close game. Final Score: Redskins 27, Packers 19

Number 3: San Francisco 49ers

Predicted Record: (11-4-1)

Current Record: (10-4-1)

The 49ers got a number 3 seed after a huge loss to the Seahawks, 42-13. Colin Kaepernick played poorly, and Alex Smith will probably regain his starting job. This is the only reason why they have a number 3 seed. Remaining opponent: vs. Arizona Cardinals. They should go easily past the Cardinals. They will probably face the Vikings led by Adrian Peterson. Though, they will probably not be able to stop Adrain Peterson and the amazing offense.

Number 4: Washington Redskins

Predicted Record: (10-6-0)

Current Record: (9-6-0)

The Redskins were 3-6 to start the season, and have the highest-scoring offense. They have won 6 straight, and will try to make it 7 straight wins. They will also try to make the playoffs for the 1st time since the 2007-2008 season. The Redskins, led by RG3 and Alfred Morris, are right now the best team in the NFL, though they don’t have the best record. Remaining opponent: vs. Dallas Cowboys. We should see the same result, with Dallas failing to beat the ‘Skins. They will rematch the Seahawks, though this time, win in a very high-scoring game, winning 45-42. Then, they will go on to stun Green Bay, 23-14. Then, the Redskins will face the Vikings, win 30-23, and go on to the Super Bowl. They will face the Indianapolis Colts, feat. Andrew Luck vs. RG3, though eventually, the Redskins prevail over the Colts, 38-26.

Number 5: Seattle Seahawks

Predicted Record: (11-5-0)

Current Record: (10-5-0)

The Seattle Seahawks will face the St. Louis Rams, and will win BIG. Their season will end though, with a heart-breaking 45-42 loss to the Redskins.

Number 6: Minnesota Vikings

Predicted Record: (10-6-0)

Current Record: (9-6-0)

The Minnesota Vikings will face the Packers on Sunday, though the result will be a win, meaning they will still be in the playoffs. They will beat the San Francisco 49ers in the 1st round 16-13, the Falcons in the 2nd round in OVERTIME, 17-14, though will not prevail against the Redskins, losing 30-23.

 The award winners:

Adrain Peterson will be rewarded with the Comeback Player of the Year Award, as Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning will win MVP, the Offensive Rookie of the Year will be Robert Griffin III, the Defensive Rookie of the Year will be Morris Claiborne, and finally, the Defensive Player of the Year will be Aldon Smith.

The 2012-2013 NFC Champions, as well as the Super Bowl Champions, the Washington Redskins

NBA 2012-13 Christmas Game Predictions

The NBA will have possibly the greatest Christmas schedule in NBA Christmas Day game history. Here are the games and the predictions. These will be tough for certain people to predict, though I’ll take my best guesses.

The Christmas Day Matchups

Boston Celtics @ Brooklyn Nets, 12 p.m. EST

The Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets are playing in a huge and very important Atlantic division matchup. Both teams have talented backcourts, as Joe Johnson and Deron Williams will lead the Nets, and Rajon Rondo leading the way for the Celtics. The Celtics have been struggling this season, and hope to end those struggles ASAP.

My call: The Boston Celtics will leave Brooklyn with a huge and unforgettable performance from Rajon Rondo, but come come up short of a win. The Final Score… Nets 109, Celtics 99

New York Knicks @ Los Angeles Lakers, 3 p.m. EST

The NY Knicks and the LA Lakers have already faced off this season, and the Knicks won 116-107, though the Lakers were Nash-less. Carmelo Anthony had left the game with with a left ankle injury after taking a hit from Lakers Center Dwight Howard on a very physical foul. Though both of these injured players are expected to return.

My call: The Lakers will finally show that they are good enough with Nash and that they are still a championship-caliber team. The Final Score: Lakers 111, Knicks 108

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Miami Heat, 5:30 p.m. EST

The Miami Heat will play their 2nd straight Christmas against their NBA Finals opponent. This year, they’ll face the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Heat beat the Thunder in 5 games, as LeBron James, probably the best player in the NBA right now, got the best of Kevin Durant, probably the 2nd best in the NBA right now, Dwyane Wade got the best of Russell Westbrook, and Chris Bosh got the best of defensive-minded player Serge Ibaka. The Thunder have been very quiet since then, and not as good as the James Harden-Thunder team from last season. The Heat have improved since last season by adding Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. Though still, you can’t count any of these teams out, and this sure will be one exciting matchup in the 2011-2012 NBA Finals rematch.

My call: This will be the best game this Christmas and will be very unforgettable, as The Durantchula (Kevin Durant), and King James (LeBron James) post up eye-popping numbers. The Miami Heat will show that they are the best team in the NBA right now, as well as show why they were the winners of the 2011-2012 NBA Finals, and why they are the favorites for winning a repeat championship and adding one more Christmas win (and possibly one more ring to the Big 3’s resume’). The Final Score: Heat 120, Thunder 116.

Houston Rockets @ Chicago Bulls, 8 p.m. EST

The Houston Rockets are lead by James Harden and Jeremy Lin. The Bulls are lead by  Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. These are 2 teams that have had average seasons. None of the teams have eye-popping stats, they have multiple injured players, and both teams are not number 1 in their division or conference. The Rockets seemed like Western Conference favorites, and the Chicago Bulls seemed like ultimate flops, though the Rockets teams starting falling apart, and Tom Thibodeau started getting his team back on track.

My call: This will be the lowest-scoring Christmas Day game this season, though the Rockets have shown that they can challenge some great teams this season and will for many seasons to come. The Final Score: Rockets 86, Bulls 82.

Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Clippers, 10:30 p.m. EST

This game shows some Western Conference playoff atmosphere, and Lob City will play its 2nd Christmas Day game.

My call: Lob City, lead by Chris Paul, will blowout the Nuggets. The Final Score: Clippers 111, Nuggets 80
